Krista Rae - WordPress developer for designers

Hey, I'm Krista!

It's overwhelming and frustrating to take charge of every aspect of a design business. Sometimes it's not even feeling overwhelmed, but knowing that you could do more of what you love (and make more $$) if you got rid of a few pieces.

As a designer, creating memorable brands and websites is where your time is best spent. That's how you serve your clients. That's how you make an impact. And that's how you bring in the dollar bills.

But the code that comes with designing those intentional websites isn't your cup of tea. Sure, you can push through and make it happen. But it takes way too long, your creativity is limited by your coding abilities, and it totally ruins the excitement as you near the end of a project. That's what I'm here for!

I take care of the code so you don't have to.

I work with designers running established businesses who set out to make a real impact through each and every one of their carefully curated designs. Designers who...

  • Value the power of their designs too much to spend countless hours learning new coding skills or fighting with final website tweaks that they just don’t have time to deal with.
  • Want to feel lit up and excited throughout a client project, rather than getting to development and feeling discouraged because it’s like starting from scratch.
  • Are ready to get designs out into the world more quickly, without having the pressure of the full project on them.
  • Aren’t willing to feel limited based on their own coding abilities or the skills and reliability of an inexperienced developer.
  • Want the best web experience for their clients - from the design itself to how easy it is for them to manage down the road.

My core values

When you trust another business owner with the outcome of your client sites, it’s helpful to know a thing or two about them. Here are the values at the core of Krista Rae LLC:

Dependability

I dedicate myself to giving each and every client an amazing experience. From the time you inquire to the time the website we've collaborated on launches and beyond, you are my priority. I'll never go MIA, I'll never commit to something and then not do it. I am your go-to developer and a team member you can fully rely on.

Excellence

I set out each day to be the best developer I can be through crazy attention to detail and the outcome of the final product I create. I consistently further my education and hone my development skills. This allows me to build websites that will serve clients for years to come.

Collaboration

I am here to serve as a member of your team. Regardless of whether we work together on a custom website, small tweaks, or an ongoing retainer, the entire process is collaborative. Only together can we create the website your client has been dreaming of.

Freedom

Just as my business creates freedom for me, I use my skills to create freedom for designers. Each project I take on and each minute I spend expanding upon my skill set means less time you have to spend in code and more time you get to spend on design.

Simplicity

As I've put an effort into making my own business simple and stress-free, I strive to do the same for you. In addition to taking development off your to-do list, I keep everything in our process as simple as possible and ensure you always know what's coming next.

Giving Back

I've been given so much through my business that giving back is a big part of what I do. I sponsor 3 orphans as well as donate a portion of profits to Lifesong for Orphans. I also use my business to give back to others through providing opportunities.

More about me

In college, I discovered my love for development. In 5 years I went from not knowing what code was to having a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Software Engineering.

After a few years of being a software and web developer for a large corporation, I dove into the world of WordPress development and running an online business. And boy did I underestimate how much work it would take!

After 2 years I became passionate about running a more simplified business. I realized I didn't have to do everything myself and quickly saw a big return (both in terms of money and my happiness) from relying on other people's' talents to take care of tasks I wasn't as good at.

Now I've found myself feeling even more passionate about taking a big weight off of the shoulders of brand and web designers. Through custom theme development based off of gorgeous mockups to monthly retainer services to help you focus on the pieces of your projects that matter, I am your ongoing collaborator for all things code, tech, and WordPress!

It tends to be one of the last things we think abo It tends to be one of the last things we think about, but the client experience is a vital part of what you do. A good experience can decide whether a one-time client will become a repeat client. It can also get you powerful testimonials and determine if your clients will refer you to their friends. Plus it will allow you to charge more for your services!

When I started offering my WordPress development services, the experience I gave was an afterthought. Luckily, I didn’t run into any bad situations, but since giving my client experience the attention it deserves I’ve had several designers tell me that working together was the best experience they’ve ever had with a service provider.

You can create that level of experience too! Head to the link in my bio to learn 5 simple ways to create an amazing client experience!

Stay consistent with whatever method you’ve chosen and most clients will follow suit without an issue.

If you consistently run into issues with clients being unwilling to follow your process it either isn’t clear enough to them or it’s time to raise your prices and attract better clients.

Is this something you've struggled with?

Over and over again I see the same mistakes with d Over and over again I see the same mistakes with designers related to their services and the way they’re getting the word out. These mistakes are attracting the wrong people and keeping you from making the money you deserve.

5 mistakes that are keeping you from dream design clients and consistent income:

1️⃣ Lack of balance
To have the ability to take a step back and have “ah-ha” moments about improvements that can be made or changes you’d like to see you, need to give yourself space to do so. And space comes as a result of balance.

2️⃣ Poorly packaged services
If you have too many packages or packages that aren’t aimed at a specific client, prospects are going to be overwhelmed by choices and underwhelmed by the results they see themselves getting.

3️⃣ Random (and low) prices
You first need to find out how much money you need to make to survive and thrive. From there you can price your services effectively and know exactly how many projects you need to book in a given time period.

4️⃣ Bad sales pages
Your sales page should get clients excited, tell them exactly what they’re going to get (with a big focus on results), and get them to take that next step.

5️⃣ No waiting list
Having a waiting list is the only way you can guarantee that next project will happen when you need it to. It sounds intimidating, but building a waiting list doesn’t have to be difficult and filled with gross marketing tactics. There are ways that every business can create simple and effective routines to continuously build interest around their services.

Which mistake can you take action on today to get more dream clients and consistent income?

If you've never worked with a developer before, th If you've never worked with a developer before, there are a lot of new things you have to keep in mind when you're handing off a project for development.

One of the most important is the way you organize your files.

I’ll be honest with you, my files and folders for personal projects can get preeeettty disastrous. You with me?

When you’re relying on someone else to bring your designs to life, the unorganized files, folders, and naming conventions have to come to an end. It’s time to clean everything up and organize in a way that will make complete sense to someone other than yourself.

That means folders with descriptive names, files named properly and sorted into those nicely-named folders, and even your Photoshop or Illustrator files organized so your developer doesn’t spend hours searching through crazy layers.

Keep this in mind going into your next project and see what a difference it makes – even just for you!

The new year is coming up fast. Are you thinking a The new year is coming up fast. Are you thinking about your income goals for 2021 yet? Want to know one of my secrets to boosting profits?

Stop wasting time on tasks that aren't moving your business forward.

For myself in the past, that’s looked like:

→ Ditching the weekly YouTube videos
→ Cutting down from one blog post and newsletter per week to one every-other-week
→ Giving far less attention to Facebook and Twitter
→ Reusing Instagram photos, rather than taking and editing new ones each month

Those were all tasks I was doing because I felt like I “had” to, but once I took a step back I realized that they weren’t doing a darn thing for me. And with just that list, I instantly saved myself more than 10 hours per month.

For a little help figuring out what you can eliminate or simplify, check out this post on 9 things to simplify in your design business!

What you do with that saved time is up to you, but it could look like taking on more client projects, working on passive income, or creating better systems to increase efficiency in other areas of your business. All of those things will lead you to see an increase in profits in no time.

Do you have problems getting your clients to provi Do you have problems getting your clients to provide content on time? Listen up!

My best piece of advice is to create canned responses + templates for your projects.

Making templates for the materials you’ll send clients during this phase and writing canned responses to use.

For templates, you may want to consider things like folder templates, example content for your client to refer to, checklists, and more.

For canned responses, write out the emails you’ll send in the following situations:

👉🏽 When you’re letting clients know what material is needed and when
👉🏽 When you’re about a week out from the content being due
👉🏽 The day before the due date
👉🏽 When the due date has arrived
👉🏽 And when content is late

That way, the follow-up process becomes much easier on you and you don’t have to worry about writing emails when you might be a bit frustrated.

There are important decisions to make before you e There are important decisions to make before you even think about getting started working with a developer for the first time.

In fact, the developer you choose can make or break a project, so it’s important that you do your research and get it right the first time.

Finding someone new for any type of service can be intimidating, but when you have to trust that person with both your designs and your client’s best interest, those feelings of intimidation can be even more intense.

When looking for a developer, make sure the person has past work to show off and testimonials from other designers.

If someone hasn’t worked with a designer before, be prepared for some extra hand-holding, as it’s much different than working with general clients.

It’s also tempting to find the cheapest developer out there. 😬 Just like with anything, you get what you pay for, so be sure to plan extra time to fix problems and bring in backup if you decide to go this route. Otherwise, paying a little extra for someone with experience and a solid process will always be worth it.
